Two-Hour Cumberland Island Walking Tour

This tour covers the history of the Dungeness Historic Area, from the Native Americans to European explorers and Americans such as Catharine Greene, wife of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, and the Carnegies, famous steel magnates. We explore the Carnegies’ haunting Dungeness ruins, a 200-year-old cemetery where historic figures such as Light Horse Harry Lee are buried, Carnegie servants’ buildings such as the beautifully-preserved laundry, salt marshes, and more.

This tour includes the previously-mentioned history and ecology of the island plus a hike through a maritime forest, games that the Carnegies would have played, and seining at Cumberland’s pristine white sand beach.
