About
Molly Silver, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and owner and guide of Molly’s Old South Tours, has been a tour guide for a dozen years.
She fell in love with Art History – Italian art in particular – after taking an elective course in high school and majored in it at Davidson College in North Carolina. She thought she would teach the subject but realized if she wanted to work face-to-face with the art she loved, she should lead tours in Italy. Therefore, after graduating she moved to Rome to pursue her passion.
She lived in Italy for five years, leading tours in Rome and receiving her Masters in Renaissance Art in Florence through Syracuse University and then began leading bus tours throughout Italy for Rick Steves’ Europe. Even after she relocated to the U.S. in 2016, she continued to guide in Italy several months of the year.
After moving to St. Marys, Georgia, for her husband’s work, she began researching local history and realized this historic town’s quaint buildings had incredible stories to tell. She began offering history tours of St. Marys and then received permission from the National Park Service to lead walking tours on nearby Cumberland Island. Her company is the only one certified to lead daily tours of the Dungeness area, where the Carnegies’ mansion ruins are located.
St. Marys and Cumberland Island contain so much fascinating history, from the Native Americans to Europeans, Early Americans to the Gilded Age and beyond. Molly loves relaying their stories in a relatable and interactive way so that her guests feel as passionate as she does about them!
